WHAT WE TREAT
Our codependency treatment programmes take a holistic approach, focusing on your unique needs without following a specific treatment model. Our main goal is to help you reconnect with yourself so you no longer feel the need to rely on others for your sense of worth or well-being.
When we suffer from codependency, we struggle to find self-worth outside of pleasing other people even when they mistreat us. Rather than being an addiction, codependency is classed as a nuanced behavioural condition. Codependency can often be found at the root of many self-destructive addictions and, in particular, is the first step towards developing a love addiction.
Codependent relationships tend to be very one-sided and can become acrimonious. Codependency can also make people more attracted to individuals ‘in need’ who are suffering from mental health or addiction issues. For example, a codependent person might enter a relationship with a narcissist because they will be attracted to someone who requires all of their attention and energy. Codependent people can also be drawn to the highly vulnerable nature of individuals suffering from addiction, who may become dependent on the excessive help of the codependent person. Together, codependency and addiction reinforce each other, delaying recovery for both parties.
Codependent attachment is either acquired or taught to us as children. If we grew up with one parent who was highly codependent on the other, we may have learned that this is how to show others love. We can also become codependent through experiencing childhood trauma. Trauma can lead us to internalise the belief that the world is unsafe and we must work to control it.
At Paracelsus Recovery, we can help you rebuild your sense of self and establish healthier, more balanced relationships.

How we treat codependency
We can’t tell you exactly what your four-week stay will involve because our patients have no pre-defined treatment path. We understand that codependency is complex and each recovery journey is personal. Therefore, everyone who comes to stay at Paracelsus Recovery receives a bespoke treatment plan tailored to the unique nuances of their experience of codependency.
Each day of your programme is thoughtfully structured to include a range of carefully tailored therapeutic elements designed to help you rebuild you sense of self-worth and restore your well-being. By complementing one another, these therapies ensure that every aspect of your physical, emotional, and psychological health is addressed. See below for more details.
Our approach considers the whole person – mind, body and soul
Paracelsus Recovery was the first residential drug treatment centre to introduce functional medicine and interdisciplinary modalities into its treatment programmes. Since the beginning, we’ve known that addictions are a consequence of imbalances in life. Healing requires understanding how and why those imbalances came to be so that we can treat the underlying causes, not just the symptoms.
Throughout your treatment, you’ll receive care from a psychiatrist and specialist therapist to help you process past traumas. A live-in therapist will also be available for around-the-clock emotional support. In addition, we’ll address any physical imbalances, such as biochemical or gut health issues, as they can deeply affect your emotional state. Our holistic approach is designed to help you break free from codependency, rebuild your sense of self, and develop healthier relationships with yourself and those around you.
We don’t just address the causes of your codependency but also the consequences, such as neurological to physiological damage often caused by behavioural conditions. These are treated alongside the underlying factors driving your copdependency. Typically, our treatments involve intensive psychotherapy, biochemical restoration, and complementary therapies, all aimed at minimising stress and supporting long-term, robust recovery.
