Luxurious treatment room at Paracelsus Recovery where personal training sessions take place

At Paracelsus Recovery, our treatment programmes include a dedicated personal trainer for each client. The aim of providing you with a personal trainer is to strengthen and restore your physical health and support your wider treatment goals.

What is personal training?

A personal trainer creates bespoke fitness programmes to help support your treatment plan and meet your overall treatment goals. This includes motivating and guiding you to incorporate physical activity into your routine and meet fitness goals that will restore physical health. While improving your fitness is not your primary reason for coming to Paracelsus Recovery, physical training is a key part of our recovery programmes. Our integrated and holistic approach to treatment appreciates the mind-body connection and the significant impact exercise has on both physical and psychological well-being. Including personal training in your treatment plan recognises exercise as a transformative tool in the realm of mental health recovery.

By getting our clients to move their bodies and do some exercises, our personal trainers help them to feel better both physically and mentally. Through introducing them to ways in which the body and mind affect one another, our personal trainers provide our clients with empowering tools to restore and optimise their health and wellness. The work they do together enables clients to build strong foundations, both physical and mental, for long-lasting recovery. Therefore, working with a personal trainer is an ideal complement to the main treatments clients have with doctors and therapists.

What are the benefits of having a personal trainer?

A main benefit is that personal training is the opportunity it provides for clients to have a break from more mentally and emotionally demanding therapies with doctors, psychiatrists and therapists. So while the training process helps them feel better physically and mentally, it also offers “down-time” from the core therapies in a certain sense. In addition, when participating in personal training, there are the obvious physical restoration benefits such as better flexibility, strength and endurance. Exercise can also improve bone density, sleep and energy levels and help with weight management.

However, the benefits of exercise extend far beyond optimising physical health. The impact on mental and emotional health can be profound. For example, the endorphins released during exercise can enhance mood and alleviate feelings of depression and anxiety. Exercise also relieves stress and boosts self-esteem and confidence. Crucially, working with a personal trainer offers a chance to interact socially, which is a critical component of mental health recovery. As is the structure that incorporating exercise into a daily routine creates. For all the above reasons, including structured, expert-guided and tailored exercise in mental health or substance abuse recovery programmes is essential and hugely beneficial.

How is a personal trainer included as part of my programme?

Throughout your stay with us, you will have a dedicated personal trainer. Our personal trainers are empathetic and compassionate. They are also the best in their field. As part of your treatment plan, they will design and facilitate your individualised exercise programme. They will first conduct a fitness assessment to identify your fitness level and then curate your individual fitness plan based on this information. The plan will be bespoke to you and your treatment goals, designed to be a long-term daily exercise routine that works for you and your life. No matter your level of fitness, our instructors will meet you where you are.

There is no one-size-fits-all exercise programme; it will feature various sports and fitness styles based on your unique set of needs. This includes working with some of the world’s leading fitness instructors in tennis, yoga and pilates, for example. In addition, we have access to a selection of Zurich’s finest gyms. Alternatively, we can always bring equipment to you and carry out fitness sessions in the comfort of your penthouse apartment.
