WHAT WE TREAT

Rehab for Oxycodone (OxyContin) Addiction

At Paracelsus Recovery, we’re here to help you overcome your OxyContin addiction, no matter how overwhelming that might feel. In a private and comfortable setting, we ensure a safe, expert-supported withdrawal from OxyContin while also addressing the root causes of your addiction and helping to restore your overall health.

OxyContin is an opioid that belongs to the narcotic analgesics group of medicines. This powerful pain medication works by dissociating the user from their pain. It is most commonly prescribed for severe pain caused by major surgery, cancer or when other painkillers have been ineffective. However, OxyContin can be highly addictive. What often begins as a legitimate medical use of oxycodone can quickly spiral out of control as an individual’s tolerance to this extremely powerful opioid can snowball.

Physical dependency occurs when an individual relies on OxyContin to an excessive degree. The body grows so accustomed to OxyContin that, in the absence of it, it thinks it is missing something vital. In response to this feeling, the individual experiences withdrawal symptoms. Psychological dependency occurs when we begin to rely on OxyContin to numb or dissociate ourselves from emotional pain such as stress, loneliness, or trauma. Most individuals suffering from prescription medication addictions will have varying levels of both physical and psychological dependencies.

At Paracelsus Recovery, we have treated many patients who have developed an OxyContin addiction. This is in part due to the opioid crisis that started in the 1990s and peaked again in the early 2010s. During the opioid epidemic, there was a rapid increase in the overuse, abuse and overdose deaths caused by opioids, with OxyContin (the most common form of oxycodone) sitting firmly at the the centre of the crisis due to overprescription. The risk of overdose and death from OxyContin is huge during relapse in particular. If an individual relapses after being clean, their tolerance won’t be as high, putting them at risk of overdosing. While the situation has somewhat improved, with better medical practices in the US and around the world, oxycodone is still highly addictive.

Over time, OxyContin abuse can wreak havoc on one’s health. It increases an individual’s risk of developing respiratory depression, liver and kidney damage, experiencing seizures and developing other mental health conditions or substance abuse issues. In particular, research suggests that about 45% of people who use heroin started with an addiction to prescription opioids.

If you have developed an OxyContin addiction, it is not your fault and there is a way to overcome it. However, due to its addictive nature, it can be very challenging to detox from oxycodone without professional, structured support. Often, the only way to do this is to undergo a medical detox to manage the physical withdrawal symptoms and to work with mental health experts to manage the psychological withdrawal.

Through our combination of medical, psychological and personal care, we are proud to be the only clinic in the world that addresses co-occurring conditions and every possible root-cause of OxyContin addiction. In so doing, we can help you recover in a matter of weeks, rather than years or months.

How we treat OxyContin addiction?

We can’t tell you exactly what your four-week stay will involve, as each person’s journey with OxyContin is unique. At Paracelsus Recovery, we understand that every client requires a bespoke treatment plan moulded to their unique needs. However, it is important to emphasise that we do not adopt a specific treatment model. Instead, we advocate for a completely pragmatic approach to addiction; whatever works best for you to achieve your goals. This means we fully support medication-assisted treatment (MAT) where necessary and do not require you to abstain from other substances, such as nicotine or alcohol.

Your time with us will be thoughtfully structured to include a variety of carefully selected therapies designed to address your OxyContin dependency and help you regain control of your life. Whenever necessary, this includes a medically supervised withdrawal supported by infusions (IVs) and complementary therapies to to ease withdrawal symptoms. Together, the therapies we use work in harmony to heal not only the physical aspects of addiction but also any emotional and psychological factors involved. See below for more details.
