WHAT WE TREAT

Rehab for Morphine Addiction

We’re here to help you overcome your morphine addiction, no matter how tough it may feel. Our personalised and practical treatment programmes are designed to support you through a safe, managed withdrawal from morphine while also identifying and addressing any underlying issues that may be contributing to your addiction. Our goal is to help you heal.

It’s part of a group of medications called analgesics, which are widely prescribed around the world. Morphine is an opioid, a class of powerful drugs that affect the brain’s reward system. While morphine can be incredibly helpful for pain relief when used appropriately, it also falls under the category of narcotics, which work by disconnecting the user from pain.

What often starts as a legitimate medical use often leads to unintended addiction. As the body builds a tolerance, more of the drug may be needed to achieve the same effect, which can quickly spiral into a dependency.

Physical dependence happens when the body becomes so accustomed to morphine that it feels like something’s missing when it’s not present, leading to withdrawal symptoms. On the other hand, psychological dependence occurs when morphine is used to numb emotional pain, like stress, loneliness, or past trauma. Many people struggling with prescription medication addiction experience both physical and psychological dependence to varying degrees.

Over time, morphine abuse can wreak havoc on one’s health. It increases an individual’s risk of developing respiratory depression, liver and kidney damage, experiencing seizures and developing other mental health conditions or substance abuse issues.

If you have been taking morphine for an extended time, you may need to taper off your dosage to ensure a safe withdrawal. Often, the only way to do this is to undergo a medical detox to manage the physical withdrawal symptoms and to work with mental health professionals to manage the psychological withdrawal.

Through our combination of medical, psychological and personal care, we are proud to be the only clinic in the world that addresses co-occurring conditions and every possible root-cause of morphine addiction. In so doing, we can help you recover in a matter of weeks, rather than years or month

Signs of a morphine dependency include:

  • Ingesting morphine even though the pain has subsided.
  • Lying or exaggerating pain to get prescribed morphine.
  • Taking morphine in response to stress, anxiety or boredom.
  • Spending less time with family, friends or doing activities you once enjoyed.
  • Going to different doctors or chemists in an attempt to morphine.

How we treat morphine addiction

We don’t adopt a pre-defined approach to treating morphine at our residential drug treatment centre. Instead, we advocate for a completely pragmatic approach to addiction; whatever works best for you to achieve your goals. That means that we absolutely support medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and we will not ‘demand’ that you stop using other substances (nicotine, alcohol, etc).

Every person who comes to Paracelsus Recovery receives a bespoke treatment plan moulded to their unique needs. All of our morphine treatment includes a carefully monitored, medically supervised withdrawal process. We will make this process as comfortable as possible with supporting infusions (IVs) and various therapies.
