WHAT WE TREAT

Rehab for Buprenorphine (Suboxone) Addiction

At Paracelsus Recovery, we can help you overcome your Suboxone addiction, no matter how challenging that may feel. Our support goes beyond ensuring a safe, expert-led withdrawal and managing your symptoms; we work to address each root cause of your addiction and restore your health.

Suboxone is an opioid that belongs to the narcotic analgesics group of medicines. This powerful pain medication works by dissociating the user from their pain. Suboxone is most commonly prescribed for moderate to severe pain caused by major surgery, injury, cancer, or when other painkillers have been ineffective. It is also prescribed to treat drug dependency, for example to withdraw from opioids such as heroin.

Suboxone is not extremely addictive in and of itself due to the fact it does not produce a significant ‘high’. The main challenge it presents is the fear of withdrawing from it as the withdrawal process is particularly challenging. That being said, it can be addictive. Physical dependency occurs when an individual relies on Suboxone to an excessive degree. The body grows so accustomed to Suboxone that, in the absence of it, it thinks it is missing something vital. In response to this feeling, the individual experiences withdrawal symptoms.

Psychological dependency occurs when we begin to rely on Suboxone to numb or dissociate ourselves from emotional pain such as stress, loneliness or trauma. Most individuals suffering from prescription medication addictions will have varying levels of both physical and psychological dependencies.

Over time, Suboxone abuse can wreak havoc on one’s health. It increases an individual’s risk of developing respiratory depression, liver and kidney damage, experiencing seizures and developing other mental health conditions or substance abuse issues.

If you have developed a Suboxone addiction, it is not your fault and there is a way to overcome it. However, it can be very challenging to detox from buprenorphine without professional, structured support. Often, the only way to do this is to undergo a medical detox to manage the physical withdrawal symptoms and to work with mental health experts to manage the psychological withdrawal.

Through our combination of medical, psychological and personal care, we are proud to be the only clinic in the world that addresses co-occurring conditions and every possible root-cause of Suboxone addiction. In doing so, we can help you recover in a matter of weeks, rather than years or months.

How we treat Suboxone addiction

We can’t tell you exactly what your four-week stay will entail, as each person’s experience with Suboxone dependence is unique. At Paracelsus Recovery, we recognise that no two recovery journeys are the same, which is why every client receives a completely bespoke treatment plan tailored to their individual needs. However, it is important to emphasise that we do not adopt a specific treatment model. Instead, we advocate for a completely pragmatic approach to addiction; whatever works best for you to achieve your goals.

Your time with us will be carefully designed to include a range of therapies selected specifically to support your recovery from Suboxone addiction. We incorporate supportive treatments such as infusions (IVs) alongside other specialised therapies to ensure the process is as comfortable as possible. Each therapy is designed to work in synergy, addressing not only the physical dependence but also the emotional and psychological aspects of addiction. See below for more details.
