Our health assessments explained
Creating change on a cellular level
We can only tailor a programme to a client when we know where the problems lie. Using our 360-interdisciplinary approach, our assessment procedure identifies each possible area of your health and well-being that requires re-balancing. The process forms the bedrock of your treatment programme.
Physical symptoms significantly impact your mental health and overall well-being. Symptoms such as high blood pressure, weight issues, fatigue, chronic or acute pain, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, brain fog, digestive issues, muscle weakness, headaches, or skin problems almost always indicate internal inflammation and imbalances.
To uncover the root causes, we conduct blood tests to examine your haematology, liver function, glycemia, blood lipids, and thyroid activity. We also assess your gut biology and examine your stress hormone, mineral, vitamin levels, and oxidative stress levels. Advanced diagnostics such as 24-hour ECGs, stress MRIs, and mitochondrial function tests are used to assess cardiovascular and respiratory health.
Genetic testing lies at the heart of our tailored approach to your health. Through these tests, we can identify changes and variations in your DNA (genes, chromosomes, or proteins) through a tissue sample (typically saliva). These tests enable us to identify potential health risks, locate genetic or inherited disorders, and screen for inherited neurochemical imbalances, cancer susceptibility, reproductive health, familial (mental and physical) health history and other vital parameters.
Tests include epigenetics, whole genome sequencing (WGS), biochemical, cytogenetic, and molecular assessments. Each test analyses different biomarkers to ensure a complete and comprehensive picture of your cellular health.
We employ a range of cutting-edge machines, including MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), CT (Computed Tomography) scanners, and PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanners. These machines utilise advanced techniques to create detailed images of your body‘s internal structures and help us identify various conditions.
These can include (but are not limited to) cardiovascular diseases, respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal disorders, oncological conditions, and urological and gynaecological conditions. All of these conditions have a bearing on our emotional and psychological well-being.
Functional medicine targets the root cause of a disease rather than the symptoms, making it central to our assessment procedure. Our team will assess neurotransmitter imbalances, amino acid imbalances, hyper or hypo-glycaemia (elevated glucose or glucose deficiency), inflammatory stress and oxidative stress on the cellular level, adrenal fatigue, gut health (e.g. ulcers, gut microbiome, inflammatory parameters, food intolerances, parasites, etc.) and hormone levels.
Once we have the results of your tests, your functional medicine team will then analyse the relationship between your cellular, environmental, genetic, historical and lifestyle results to understand how these factors correlate to various disease and ill-health markers.
Sleep is the foundation of physical and mental well-being, playing a crucial role in immune function, hormone regulation, and emotional resilience. Chronic sleep deprivation can exacerbate conditions like anxiety, depression, and heart disease while also impairing cognitive functions such as memory and decision-making. Prioritising and addressing sleep-related issues is a priority for us, as it plays a foundational role in restoring your inner sense of balance and well-being.
Sleep studies involve monitoring your brain waves, eye motions and heart rhythms during sleep. Your team will use these studies to determine if you suffer from issues such as insomnia, restless leg syndrome or sleep apnoea.
Our in-house psychiatrist will conduct a personalised diagnostic procedure to identify mental health conditions affecting your quality of life and physical health. While this might sound cold and clinical, it simply means having a one-on-one conversation with our lead psychiatrist, who will help you figure out why you might be struggling in the way you are.
This comprehensive assessment includes evaluating emotional well-being, identifying stressors, analysing your history, childhood experiences, and whether or not there is any history of mental health issues in your family. We will also screen for conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other underlying psychiatric disorders. Dual diagnosis is a critical part of this process, as it addresses the coexistence of mental health conditions and substance use disorders, ensuring that both can be treated during your time with us. To improve the accuracy of your psychiatric diagnosis, we take a precision psychiatry approach, which involves integrating genomics, neuroimaging, biomarker analysis, and artificial intelligence into the diagnostic process.
Our dietitians, medical doctors and nutritional scientists will examine your dietary habits, nutrient deficiencies, metabolic health, stress levels, physical activity levels, caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine intake (when applicable), self-reported loneliness and connection levels, and overall lifestyle habits. We will then analyse your results in conjunction with your tests to ensure a complete and comprehensive picture of your health.
Our psychological assessment focuses on understanding the deeper emotional and cognitive patterns influencing your overall well-being. This assessment procedure is very different to the psychiatric diagnosis, as it emphasises the experiential, unconscious aspects of your ill health. In dialogue with one of our in-house psychologists, you will explore some of the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours accompanying your distress and imbalances.
This assessment is designed to identify psychological challenges, offering insights into how past experiences, current stressors, or unhelpful thought patterns may affect your mental and physical health. Unlike psychiatric screening, which diagnoses specific conditions, psychological assessments help guide the therapeutic interventions we will incorporate into your programme. These can include evidence-based approaches like cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness practices and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
We tailor every aspect of your programme to your needs, including the assessment procedure. So, if we’ve conducted all of the above and we think there is still more to uncover, we will conduct more tests. The list of these tests can be pretty endless, ranging from dermatological, gynaecological, dental health checks, cancer screenings, endoscopies, and respiratory function assessments to personality inventories (e.g. MMPI, Big Five), anxiety and depression scales, substance use evaluations, audiological assessments, and many more.
